Australian Aid's Disability Empowerment Skills Exchange (DESE) program

In this ABC news online feature and news story (which aired on the 7pm News in multiple states), we take a look at the work of Australian Aid's Disability Empowerment Skills Exchange (DESE) program and the state of disability access outside Fiji's capital cities.

The story features interviews with a Fijian village leader and members of the Fiji-based DESE team, vision of them in action, as well as a piece to camera by DESE alumna Nas Campanella.

This represents a significant achievement for the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade's Australian Volunteers for International Development (AVID) program and the partnership between Scope Global and ABCID, not to mention disability empowerment more broadly.

As best as we can ascertain, this story marks the first time a visually-impaired journalist has filed from an international location for ABC television news.
